Monkeystack Incubator (for those Inbetween)

"What in all of hiccup am I going to do now?" Final year students at SBIT are finalising their showreels and short films for the end of year screening. Then there is a bit of tidying up other assignments for assessment and finally graduation. What then?

Here is an interesting idea to consider, if an animator is willing to target Adelaide and the South Australian animation scene*: The Monkeystack Incubator is a halfway house into the industry. Check out their showreel. This is a great stepping stone idea for every Australian animation city.

*You can get a flight to Adelaide for $Oz 150.

One animator has applied already and the post is still warm having just sprung from the toaster.

I'd just like to chime in and remind everyone how often it's said not to have a big head. Don't be holding out for Pixar or DW to come running to you, if someone is going to pay you to animate, seize it! When you're fresh to the industry you still have some rough edges to knock off until your streamlined. There are creative challenges and rewards to any field of animation, even if you at first weren't interested in games or vfx or ads or features or whatever it is. Or to put it another way, being paid to set any kind of keys beats being paid to flip burgers or steam latte's.

Hi Shane

Thanks for tracking the post down. The initial information came via the DLF - Digital Labourer's Federation mail out.

Hi Alonso

Chime in anytime. I agree, get out there and have an adventure. Don't wait. Improve your showreel weekly, if possible. Make things happen.

Now I feel like a burger and a latte.
